That disturbance in the Force you feel is Disney shuffling the decks of their Star Wars franchise. They've decided to make fans wait even longer to find out what's up with Luke Skywalker and that beard by moving Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII from May 26th 2017 all the way to December 15th of the same year. Curious as to why? Well, there could be a couple of reasons.
The best guess is Disney was sensing that things were getting a little too crowded. They have Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set to open on May 5th 2017, after all. Let's not forget the first 'Guardians' film was one of 2014's top grossing films, and Disney doesn't want to miss out on the chance of having that happen again.
The other reason you probably guessed already. Since Star Wars: The Force Awakens did record-breaking numbers in December, why screw around with a good thing? If the Star Destroyer ain't broke, don't fix it. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens this December, as well.
Meanwhile, they've bumped up Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales into the slot vacated by 'Episode VIII', and then moved Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man movie into the empty 'Pirates' spot on July 7th 2017.
