What Baz Luhrmann wants to do right here is go back...way back! It seems everybody is feeling the old school hip-hop vibe nowadays, which is great for a rap cat like myself. Movies like Dope and VH-1's The Breaks have brought that street spirit back in a major way, and Luhrmann is putting his own spin on it with his Netflix series, The Get Down, which has just debuted an amazing trailer.
The series stars Shameik Moore (of Dope, coincidentally), Justice Smith, Herizen Guardiola, Jaden Smith, Skylan Brooks, Tremaine Browne, Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jimmy Smits and Giancarlo Esposito, and is set in the 1970s music scene in New York City. This trailer shows that it won't just be about the birth of rap, but encompasses music of many different styles, including disco. Here's the synopsis:
