Laurel & Hardy Biopic To Star Steve Coogan And John C. Reilly

Given how disastrous the film on The Three Stooges was just a couple of years ago, the bar has been set incredibly low for a biopic on another legendary comedy team, Laurel & Hardy. Fortunately, the talent involved suggests it will actually do the duo appropriate justice. According to Screen Daily, Steve Coogan is set to play Stan Laurel while John C. Reilly will play Oliver Hardy in an upcoming biopic from BBC Films.

At the helm will be Jon S. Baird, who last directed the R-rated comedy Filth starring James McAvoy. The story is penned by Jeff Pope (Philomena) and centers on the end of the duo's career, as they set out on a final tour of Britain  in 1953. Well past their prime and with their time as Hollywood's kings of comedy well behind them, Laurel & Hardy must keep the laughs coming while facing an uncertain future.

No word on when this will roll, but landing Coogan and Reilly, both multi-talented performers of the stage and screen, is about a good way to start as one could hope for.
