Lena Dunham To Conclude 'Girls' After Season Six
Those looking for their regular fix of Lena Dunham acting dysfunctional in her underwear will have to start looking elsewhere soon. Sources confirm to THR that HBO's Girls will wrap its run after the sixth season, which is exactly when Dunham has been saying it would likely end.
So what does the future hold for problematic gal pals Hannah, Marnie (Allison Williams), Jessa (Jemima Kirke), and Shosanna (Zosia Mamet)? More boy trouble, of course, especially for Hannah who may or may not end up with Adam, who we all know becomes the evil Kylo Ren. Or maybe Hannah doesn't know that yet? Someone should tell her.
Seriously, the show got off on the wrong foot with me right from the start, from its cast of unlikable, privileged characters to the lily-white casting. The show's lack of ethnic diversity was then clumsily handled by Dunham in following seasons, and it has never really been addressed in a serious way. However, the show ended up growing on me as they finally began to deal with real grown-up issues that didn't just have to do with the men they were sleeping with.
Many of the show's stars have gone on to much bigger things. Dunham has been keeping busy on multiple fronts, while obviously Adam Driver was in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Christopher Abbott, who departed after season two, has been receiving awards attention for his lead role in James White.
Girls' fifth season begins on February 21st.
