The arrival of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in a couple of months hasn't done much to curtail the complaints about Man of Steel. On numerous occasions Zack Snyder has been called upon to defend the choices made with the Superman relaunch, from the high body count to the snapping of Zod's neck, everything. For me, those people have been incredibly short-sighted, failing to recognize that all of that violence would have repercussions. And everything we've seen about the 'Batman v Superman' plot has suggested as such.
Cineplex couldn't help themselves and brought the subject up with Henry Cavill, asking the actor if 'Batman v Superman' will address fan complaints. Fortunately, Cavill gives exactly the right answer, which is they are moving forward rather than looking backward.
“The reception of my first Superman movie, from what I’ve read, was fairly mixed. Everyone I’ve spoken to enjoyed the movie, but [not] unlike if you’re going to meet a stranger in the street, they’re not going to badmouth you to your face. There’s no intentional move, I don’t think, in 'Batman v Superman' to address any issues that people had with 'Man of Steel.' It’s just a continuation of that storyline, and they continue to develop that world and introduce new characters.”
Falling into the trap of giving in to every fan's fickle demands would be foolish, anyway. The people who have demanded a different take on Superman for years are the same ones who complained when they got exactly that. What happens next with the Kryptonian hero is what is important. As long as his character grows and evolves based on previous experiences, which is what appears to be happening. then what came before has value. If Snyder tried to ignore the events of Man of Steel that would be worth hollering about.
