New Han Solo Shortlist Emerges; Character Could Make 'Rogue One' Cameo

At this point most have already seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but just in case you haven't, take this chance to run in the opposite direction because SPOILERS!!!!

Everyone's favorite rogue, Han Solo, played a major part in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, perhaps bigger than anyone could have expected. Unfortunately, the role he played was to show just how far Kylo Ren had fallen to the Dark Side, sacrificing his life in one final attempt to turn his son Phil Lord and Chris Miller have cooking, and last we heard literally thousands of actors had tried out or sent in tape for the role. Well, now a much firmer shortlist of candidates has emerged and there are some big names on it.

Variety reports the list includes Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen, and Blake Jenner. Of those, Cohen and Jenner are probably the least known, which may be a good thing. Cohen first turned a lot of heads in the final segment of Derek Cianfrance's The Place Beyond the Pines. He also played a key role opposite Saoirse Ronan in Brooklyn, a likely Oscar contender. Jenner starred on Glee and has a recurring role in Supergirl alongside his wife, Melissa Benoist. Richard Linklater cast him in his upcoming '80s comedy, Everybody Wants Some.

The film isn't expected to arrive until 2018 but there's a reason casting is moving along now. Apparently there's a chance Solo could appear in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which opens later this year and details the stealing of the first Death Star's schematics so it could be blown up in 'A New Hope'. Certainly, Solo would make some sense in that scenario, but continuing to show him could run the risk of lessening the impact of his death.
