While many would say Aaron Sorkin's blistering, fast-paced dialogue makes him an acquired taste, his work has consistently earned him acclaim on the big and small screen. It's looking increasingly likely that an Oscar nomination could be on the way for Steve Jobs, but could a Best Director award be in Sorkin's future, as well? A couple of years ago Sorkin signed on to pen an adaptation of poker memoir, Molly's Game, and now he's decided to make it his directorial debut.
Sorkin will get behind the camera for the first time on the adaptation of Molly Bloom's memoir which details the high stakes poker she ran in Los Angeles for eight years that attracted celebrities, millionaires, and others in the social elite. She had been a world class skiier but failed to qualify for the Olympics, and turned to poker while taking time away before attending law school.
Sorkin previously won an Oscar for his screenplay of David Fincher's The Social Network, and it's a little surprising that he hasn't directed anything before. But that he chose to make this film his first effort shows how much he has taken a shine to Bloom's story. [Deadline]
