HBO Says 'Deadwood' Movie Is Finally "Going To Happen"
Saddle up, because HBO's Deadwood is finally coming back to HBO. Every time an HBO series ends rumors swirl about a movie, and in the case of Sex and the City and Entourage fans got their wish. It's taken a bit longer for the network to come around but TVLine now reports HBO programming president Michael Lombardo has confirmed a Deadwood film is "going to happen".
Last summer the talk of a movie picked up steam but little had been heard about since. However, with the Television Critics Association press tour happening HBO has been making a number of big moves. Here's what Lombardo had to say about show creator David Milch's plans for the revival...
“David has our commitment that we are going to do it. He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be — and knowing David, that could change. But it’s going to happen.”
He adds that Milch will get to work on Deadwood after wrapping up a prior commitment, and recognizes that it could be difficult getting the cast back together given their busy schedules. The series ran for three great seasons beginning in 2004 and sarred Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane, Garret Dillahunt, Robin Weigert, Paula Malcolmson, Molly Parker, Kim Dickens, John Hawkes, and many more. It also had one of the least satisfying conclusions of any HBO series, which is why fans have been so insistent there be a film to give it a better send-off. Hopefully it ends with one final crude swear from Al Swearengen's lips.
