Even though C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia books are just as beloved as Tolkein's Lord of the Rings novels, for some reason the movies just never took off. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe did extremely well with over $700M worldwide, but Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader fell off significantly. A couple of years ago David Magee (Life of Pi) was hired to pen an adaptation of the fourth book, The Silver Chair, and now comes a surprising update.
Collider caught up with producer Mark Gordon and asked him for any progress on The Silver Chair, and he says the film won't be a sequel at all, but instead will be something new...
"No, it’s all going to be a brand new franchise. All original. All original characters, different directors, and an entire new team that this is coming from."
The site calls that a "reboot" but that's not really true. The fourth book takes place decades later chronologically but it doesn't ignore the past stories, and really couldn't exist without those stories having taken place. Plus, any familiar characters are so old that they would require new actors, anyway...not that anybody really cared for the cast all that much. So this isn't truly a reboot it's just a sequel with some new parts.
Maybe they should think about rebooting the title because who wants to pay for a movie called The Silver Chair? *snooze* That's almost as dull as The Golden Compass.
