9th And 10th 'Fast & Furious' Movies Officially Announced

Thinking back to 2001's The Fast and the Furious it's hard to believe the franchise is still around and tearing up the streets. Actually, it's arguably the most successful homegrown series of all-time, with every installment routinely among the year's top grossing hits. Fast & Furious 8 has already been set for next year, and with Vin Diesel promising fans and Universal one more trilogy, those films have now been confirmed.

Universal has announced Fast and Furious 9 for April 19th 2019, while the tenth film will open on April 2nd 2021. Will that be the end? Who knows? There doesn't seem to be any drop off at all, so don't be surprised if Diesel finds a way to keep these movies going. Furious 7 finished up its run with $1.5B worldwide, the highest of the franchise so far, which is remarkable given how long it has been around.

So what do we know about the upcoming installments? Nothing, really. There have been rumors of Justin Lin returning to direct the final installment, and we know pretty much all of the principle cast will be returning. But will audiences still turn out in the same way following the death of Paul Walker? Obviously they showed up for his swan song last year, but there's no guarantee they'll want to see a Fast & Furious film without him.  We'll find out when Furious 8 opens on April 14th 2017.
