Earth Is Under Attack In The 'Independence Day: Resgurgence' Super Bowl Spot

Twenty years have passed since Independence Day made a superstar out of Will Smith, letting him pilot America to safety and deck a few aliens in the face. Smith won't be back for Roland Emmerich's upcoming sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence (the fate of Smith's character is here), but some familiar faces will be returning to help defend the Earth once more.

The Super Bowl is the perfect spot to debut new footage for the patriotic sequel, which brings back Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, and more. They'll be joined by new additions Jessie Usher, Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Maika Monroe, Joey King, William Fichtner, and Sela Ward. Here's the synopsis, although you already know it's about aliens invading the planet and blowing stuff up.

We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Independence Day: Resurgence opens June 26th.
