New 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword Of Destiny' Trailer; Michelle Yeoh Talks Returning For Sequel
Uh, is this a sign of desperation that Netflix is dropping yet another trailer for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny when the film hits in only two days? It does seem like there isn't much chatter surrounding a sequel to one of the most acclaimed movies of the 2000s. And maybe that's the problem; it's been sixteen years since the original, and audiences who loved it may need some convincing a sequel is worth it.
But that wasn't the case for star Michelle Yeoh, who tells USA Today that the wait has been worth it...
“This is a character so dear to my heart, I felt I could do so much more with her. Besides, after 16 years, we’ve made you guys wait long enough.”
The 53-year-old actress returns as Yu Shu-Lien, who must protect the powerful "Green Destiny" sword from falling into evil hands. Yeoh says she had no problem slipping back into her most memorable role, and the physicality it requires.
“You have to imagine springing out of the carriage, whipping out the sword, and beating down the bad guys in this fantasy move that could only happen on a movie set. It was just like old times.”
Directed by legendary fight choreographer Yuen Woo-ping with Donnie Yen, Harry Shum Jr., and Jason Scott Lee co-starring, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny hits Netflix and theaters on February 26th.
