What's this? Bruce Willis has a new film that isn't some straight-to-DVD action clunker? Well, it could still be a clunker, but at least in this case it's a big studio effort and a remake of the classic revenge film, Death Wish, which has been in the works for years.
Deadline confirms that Willis will star in the Death Wish remake, which at one time had Joe Carnahan attached to direct with Frank Grillo up for a key role. That version is out, not surprising since Carnahan openly battled with MGM about his approach, and now the film will be directed by Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, the duo behind buzzy Israeli thriller, Big Bad Wolves, which Quentin Tarantino had on his list of 2013's best movies.
This version will stick closely to Brian Garfield's book about a father who goes on a violent quest for vengeance after his wife is murdered, his daughter attacked, and the cops unable to bring the bad guys to justice. The book inspired the classic 1974 film led by Charles Bronson's powerful performance. On paper this is the kind of role Willis should be perfect for, and could be the start of yet another franchise for him.
