Producer Reveals Focus Of 'Creed' Sequel

Creed shocked everyone in that it, well, wasn't absolutely horrible. In fact, the film was good enough that many think it should have been in the Best Picture race, but it still managed to earn high praise for star Michael B. Jordan and an Oscar nomination for Sylvester Stallone. The sequel has been confirmed for some time already with a planned November 2017 release date, and while there are still more than a few questions about it that need to be answered, what we know now is that the focus will be squarely on Adonis Creed, not Rocky Balboa.

THR caught up with producer Irwin Winkler, who had this to say about Creed 2's focus...

“Next couple of weeks, we’ll start [working on it]. “But basically it’s about Creed [rather than Rocky]. We think that there is really a story to examine the life of Adonis Creed, and we’re going ahead with it.”

This would seem to kill those rumored plans of a sequel reuniting Rocky and Apollo Creed, unless it's part of the film through flashback.  The big question now is whether Ryan Coogler, who recently agreed to direct Marvel's Black Panther film, will have time to return. At this point it seems unlikely, although he will definitely have a hand in guiding where the franchise goes from here.
