An adaptation of Steve Alten's best-selling shark novel, "Meg", has long been circled by Hollywood like one of the aquatic predators. Last year it looked to be finally happening when horror maven Eli Roth (Hostel) came aboard to direct, but now Deadline reports he has exited the film, and another filmmaker is ready to sink his teeth into it.
National Treasure director Jon Turteltaub is being eyed helm Meg, which has been in the works for nearly two decades. Warner Bros. is attempting the adaptation this time, working from a script by Dean Georgaris that centers on man's encounter with a gigantic, prehistoric shark known as the Carcharodon megalodon, or "Meg" for short. Originally set in California, the location has been changed to the China coast to lure in the lucrative Chinese audience.
No word on Turteltaub's level of interest or where it would fit into his schedule. He's also attached to direct It's a Small World for Disney.
