Joseph Gordon-Levitt To Produce And Possibly Star In KKK Film, 'K Troop"
If you've been paying attention to the news, the Ku Klux Klan has been a hot topic of discussion again. Why? Because Presidential candidate and GOP frontrunner Donald Trump has been openly endorsed by the racist hate group, and he has been flaky in refuting their message. In fact, he seems to enjoy spreading their hateful rhetoric on Twitter. That combined with their prominence during the Obama administration means more people are talking about the KKK than ever, and there may be a new film about them coming up with Joseph Gordon-Levitt attached.
According to THR, Gordon-Levitt is joining with Amazon Studios to produce and potentially star in K Troop, and the true story it's telling is an interesting and very timely one. It's based on Matthew Pearl's upcoming Slate article about the U.S. Army's K Troop division, which fought against the KKK in the post-Civil War south. Gordon-Levitt would play Lewis Merrill, an officer in the Army who joined with African-American informants to break up the KKK, even though Southern sympathizers in Congress would hurt his military career as a result.
This one's pretty early on, but considering all of the problems Hollywood has been dealing with lately it's bound to draw a lot of attention.
