The $2B earned by Star Wars: The Force Awakens is enough to make it the 3rd highest-grossing film ever, a feat that surely exceeded Disney's wildest expectations. And yet it's only one part of the megabucks they'll ultimately earn from the film, with the next influx of cash coming with the home release. Disney has confirmed the film will hit Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital on April 5th, dropping a new trailer to celebrate the release.
While the physical Blu-Ray arrives on April 5th, the digital version actually arrives a few days earlier on April 1st. If you want the actual Blu-Ray/DVD package to add to your library, there are a number of options available that come with different exclusives. Buy the film from Target and you'll get an extra 20 minutes of exclusive content, including a never-before-seen interview with John Boyega and Daisy Ridley. Pre-order from the Disney site and get treated to an exclusive Star Wars lithograph, Best Buy gets exclusive steelbook packaging, while the Wal-Mart edition comes with the special BB-8 packaging teased a couple of days ago.
While the scattering of content amongst retailers is annoying, it's nothing new to the Star Wars franchise which has always released multiple editions of the same movie to keep fans digging into their wallets to collect everything.
