New 'A Christmas Carol' Lands 'Foxcatcher' Director Bennett Miller

Considering there are already dozens of adaptations of Charles Dickens's 1843 book, A Christmas Carol, including the 1938 film many consider a holiday classic, there wasn't much demand for yet another version. And yet one is happening anyway, but at least there's reason not to disregard this one as Moneyball, Capote, and Foxcatcher director Bennett Miller will be at the helm.

Miller is set to direct A Christmas Carol, based on a screenplay by Shakespeare in Love writer, Tom Stoppard. The 19th-century setting will remain in place, and presumably so will iconic characters such as Bob Cratchit, Ebeneezer Scrooge, and the ghosts of Christmas' past, present, and yet to come.

Then again, that kind of makes one wonder why bother making the film at all? Hopefully Miller can come up with some new ideas to keep audiences on their toes. [THR]
