David Oyelowo To Lead Gun Violence Drama 'Another Day In The Death Of America'

This week Barbershop: The Next Cut turns its attention towards the issue of gun violence, so too did Spike Lee's Chi-Raq recently. With gun deaths reaching into the thousands each year, Hollywood has begun to turn its attention on the subject, and now you can add one more film that has something to say about it.

Selma star David Oyelowo will headline Another Day in the Death of America, a drama based on the upcoming novel by journalist Gary Young. Oyelowo plays the writer who picked a random day in America and investigated the deaths of 10 children shot on that date. The day he chose, November 23rd 2013, saw children as old as 19 and as young as 9 shot and killed, with none of their cases making the national news. He went on to talk to the victims' families and told the story of how they lived, not how they died. His heart-wrenching journey is what inspired the book.

No word on when this would shoot but Oyelowo already has a lot on his plate. He's currently filming American Express alongside Charlize Theron, and after that he's got the J.J. Abrams-produced God Particle opposite Gugu Mbatha-Raw. [Deadline]
