Jon Favreau Talks Exec-Producing 'Avengers: Infinity War', Plus New 'Civil War' TV Spots And Posters
I've seen some people say that Jon Favreau had a "rough break" when it comes to his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. How the Hell is that possible? Not only did he get them off the ground with two Iron Man movies, but he is largely responsible for setting their blockbuster all-ages tone that continues to this day. Not only that, but he continues to be a part of things as an exec-producer on Iron Man 3, The Avengers, and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Rough break, really? There are no rough breaks for Happy Hogan.
And since he has continued to be a part of the MCU, it's not surprising to learn that he'll be back again to exec-produce Avengers: Infinity War, which the Russo Brothers will direct. He told Digital Spy....
“I’m going to be executive producing the Avengers films with the Russo brothers, which I’m very excited about. I talk to them about it all the time. I’ve worked both in front of and behind the camera with Marvel and I really love what they’re doing right now. It’s a really exciting time to be over there. I’ve seen a rough cut of Civil War and it’s fantastic. We’re constantly looking for things to do together. And now I’m freed up.”
Favreau's currently sitting at the top of the box office with Disney's The Jungle Book, which opened worldwide to nearly $300M. He's already set to return for its sequel, and so the likelihood of him directing another Marvel movie anytime soon is slim. Besides, he's enjoying the opportunity to get away from superheroes for a while...
"The question is, do I want to do something else in the superhero genre? I've spent a big chunk of my career working on that already. All new titles are coming out now. I'm actually surprised I don't feel that way about The Jungle Book already, but with Iron Man, I'd done two back to back. My time was completely monopolized for those years and I wanted allowed to explore other things.Part of the fun of having a successful movie is you get a lot of say on what your next project is. Sometimes you want to leave yourself open to other opportunities instead of another four or five years maybe working on that franchise."
In other words, nah, no thanks, Marvel. Been there, done that. Avengers: Infinity War part 1 doesn't arrive until May 4th 2018, with the sequel a year later. Next up is Captain America: Civil War on May 6th, and here are a bunch of TV spots and international posters.
