Did you know that today is Alien Day? Yep, the world over fans of Ridley Scott's classic sci-fi movie are celebrating it while looking ahead to the future. And while Scott may wish more of that attention was focused on Alien: Covenant, instead it seems to be on Neill Blomkamp's delayed sequel.
Blomkamp has revealed a new piece of concept art that teases a grown-up version of Newt. We already know to expect Sigourney Weaver's Ripley to return, as well as Michael Biehn as Corporal Hicks, but just how big of a role would Newt, who was supposedly killed in Alien 3, actually have? Biehn revealed last year that she is central to the plot, and this image appears to back that up.
But when will the film get rolling? Scott made sure to have it pushed back far enough that Alien: Covenant could come first, but Weaver says it will happen and fans will love it...
"Well, I think it is. Ridley asked Neill not to make our Alien 'til after 'Prometheus 2.' [Ridley] wanted his movie to shoot and be released first. But it’s an amazing script, and Neill and I are really excited about doing it. We’re doing other things until we can get going on that. I’d be really surprised if we didn't do it, because it’s such a great script, and we love working together. So, it’s just going to take a little bit longer to get out to you, but it’ll be worth the wait."
So does this mean we can start fan casting for the role of Newt? Can I get a vote for Natalie Dormer, please?
