Something's Up With That Wolverine Tease From The 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Trailer
Yesterday the final trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse confirmed what most of us already expected, that Hugh Jackman would be back as Wolverine. He's about to hang up the claws for good, so appearing one more time in the film is a pretty big deal. However....all may not be as it seems. It was a little strange that Fox would give away a surprise like that in the trailer, and now Bryan Singer is playing coy about what that scene actually means. He tells Empire...
"Make of that what you want. I will say, it’s not simple. There’s something more pivotal that occurs with that. It hints to a sequence that again fits within the canon of all six movies, and the birth of a new direction. It’s not insignificant, nor is it simply just a throw-in. It’s not the only shot you’re gonna see, let’s put it that way."
Huh? So what does that mean? Some kind of flashback to Wolvie's time at Weapon X? It actually looks a lot like that already, but could Singer be implying something more? Considering the continuity shift that has taken place we could be seeing a radical change in Wolverine's origin take place, and it could be used to set up the future of the character for after Jackman is done. I get the strangest feeling that at some point, probably sooner than later, we're going to get X-23, or some other female version of Wolverine. Just call it a hunch.
X-Men: Apocalypse opens May 27th so we won't have to wait long for answers.
