Nina Dobrev Eyes 'Flatliners', 'Transformers 5' Adds Jerrod Carmichael, Fran Kranz Joins 'The Dark Tower'

Nina Dobrev, last seen trying to survive a horror movie in The Final Girls, will now try to survive death in the Flatliners remake. She's entered talks to join Ellen Page and Diego Luna in the remake of the 1990 thriller about a group of college students who go too far experimenting with near-death experiences. Dobrev will play an overachiever named Marlo in the film directed by Niels Arden Oplev. [Deadline]

Comedian Jerrod Carmichael, who currently writes and stars in his own NBC sitcom, is in talks to join Mark Wahlberg and Isabela Moner in Transformers 5.  Carmichael's role is unclear but you can bet he'll be a source of comic relief. He first came to the attention of most people thanks to his scene-stealing turn in Neighbors, and he'll be seen this week alongside Susan Sarandon in The Meddler.  Transformers 5 opens June 23rd 2017 and will be Michael Bay's final movie of the franchise. Joss Whedon favorite Fran Kranz (The Cabin in the Woods) has joined The Dark Tower in the role of Pimli. Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Abbey Lee, and Jackie Earle Haley star in the adaptation of Stephen King's fantasy epic about a heroic gunslinger's quest to find the tower while battling evil. Pimli is described as the "right hand man" of the villainous Man in Black, but there's a lot more to him than that.  He's another character that shows up pretty deep into King's books, confirming once again that director Nikolaj Arcel is playing around with the timeline in order to fit as much in as possible.
