Robert Downey Jr. Says 'Sherlock Holmes 3' May Shoot This Year
Hard to believe it's been seven years since that other hit Robert Downey Jr. franchise, Sherlock Holmes, and five years since its less successful sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. While there has been talk of a third film in the Guy Ritchie-directed series, nothing has really come about and with Downey busy with Marvel stuff it's seemed unlikely. But now Downey has revealed to Shortlist that plans for Sherlock Holmes 3 are far enough along that shooting could begin this year....
“We’re talking about it right now. We can do some preliminary stuff. If we could shoot it on Skype, we could have the whole [movie] done in a week. When we’re making those ‘Sherlock’ movies it is off the hook. [So] we’ll attempt to make one this year. It really is a big deal to go and do those movies. I’m tired all the time, but I’m so excited about it.”
This sounds incredibly optimistic considering everything that will have to fall in place first. Ritchie is busy directing Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, which won't hit theaters until next year. Plus there doesn't appear to be a completed screenplay from co-writers Drew Pearce and Lionel Wigram, and that doesn't even count Downey's cramped schedule. Jude Law tends to be pretty busy, as well.
So we'll see if this actually happens but my gut tells me not to get too excited.
