Trailer For 'The Magnificent Seven' Has Denzel Washington Going Wild In The West
While it gets somewhat lost in the discussion about The Magnificent Seven remake, Denzel Washington has dabbled in the Western genre before. He showed the grit and steel of a journeyman gunslinger in the futuristic The Book of Eli a few years ago, and it turned out to be one of his low-key successes. But now he's saddling up for the genre for real, and he's doing it alongside his Training Day director Antoine Fuqua, co-star Ethan Hawke, and Jurassic World's Chris Pratt.
The first trailer for The Magnificent Seven has galloped into town and it looks wildly entertaining, like something that should be coming out in the middle of summer and not at the start of fall. The story remains largely the same as the original, with Washington's muttonchopped rogue putting together a band of outlaws to defend a poor village from an evil industrialist played by Peter Sarsgaard.
“I shot on film and I shot anamorphic,” Antoine Fuqua explained to Comingsoon. “I tried to make sure it had scope and focused on the characters. Instill wholesome values without trying to make a western with western speak and all the cliches that you can fall into."
The rest of the 'Seven' consist of Vincent D'Onofrio, Lee Byung-hun, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Martin Sensmeier, with Haley Bennett, Matt Bomer, and Luke Grimes, Cam Gigandet, and Vinnie Jones co-starring. The Magnificent Seven opens September 23rd.
