It's been a while since Oliver Stone had a feature film that was a legit Oscar contender, and the hope is that Snowden will be the next. In fact, those awards aspirations are a big reason why Open Road Films pushed back its release from last year to this fall, and have kept it out of Cannes where it was expected to premiere. But it's never too soon to get the marketing machine going, and the first full-length trailer featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the infamous whistleblower has arrived.
Gordon-Levitt stars as the leaker of vital NSA information, an act that has made him a hero to some and a traitor to others. The film will follow the course of his life and the events that led up to his decision which changed the face of information security the world over. Shailene Woodley, Nicolas Cage, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Joely Richardson, Scott Eastwood, and Timothy Olyphant make up an incredible cast, one of the best Stone has ever worked with.
Snowden hits theaters on September 16th.
