Vince Vaughn To Star In 'Bone Tomahawk' Director's 'Brawl In Cell Block 99'
Are Vince Vaughn's days as a comedy actor over? Well, probably not since he just starred in Unfinished Business last year, but clearly he's trying to do something different. True Detective season two was just the start of a more serious shift for the actor, which will include roles in the thriller Term Life, Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge, and now a promising new project from the director of Bone Tomahawk.
Vaughn is set to star in Brawl in Cell Block 99, a prison thriller from writer/director S. Craig Zahler. In what sounds like it will be a perfect Midnight movie at some point, Vaughn will play Bradley, who loses his job as an auto mechanic only to become a drug courier. The gig lands him in a gun battle between the police and his own allies, getting injured in the process and thrown in prison. There he's forced to commit such terrible deeds that it begins a completely different battle.
Zahler's Bone Tomahawk was an impressive directorial debut and a damn good blend of Western/horror tropes. It sounds like he'll be playing around with genre once again, which is reason enough to get excited. Production should kick off by summer's end.
