It's time to start calling Avengers: Infinity War something else entirely; and to also stop referring to it as a two-parter. The Russo Brothers are currently on the press rounds for Captain America: Civil War (I'll be speaking with them tomorrow) and of course they are getting asked questions about the MCU as a whole. And one fresh tidbit they dropped to Uproxx is that the upcoming movies are about to undergo a name change.
Joe Russo said, “The intention is we will change it, we just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them."
So what's the reason for this all of the sudden? The brothers admit the titles are currently "misleading" because they are "two very different movies."
Let's keep it real, too, in that audiences are wary of movies being split into two parts because of The Hunger Games, Twilight, Divergent, and others. Nobody wants to pay anymore for what they perceive as half a movie.
So at least this means there will be two separate standalone movies, and based on the titles we may be able to guess how much the villain Thanos will have to do with them. Probably a lot. The soon-to-be-retitled Avengers: Infinity War flicks open May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019
