Okay, enough with parodying Hollywood; that's been done to death. It's time for the music industry to take a little bit of that heat, and Lonely Island is set to do it with style in Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which has just debuted another trailer full of celebrity cameos, and at least one celebrity death.
Written, directed, and starring the Lonely Island trio of Andy Samberg, Jorma Tacchone, and Akiva Schaffer, the film is a mockumentary about singer/rapper Conner4Real (Samberg) who faces a crisis when his sophomore album is a flop. To get back on top he goes to increasingly desperate lengths, from stage gimmicks to dis tracks, including one in which he calls the Mona Lisa a "Basic Bitch", a song that you can hear below in its original, much nastier form. Sarah Silverman, Bill Hader, Joan Cusack, Tim Meadows, Imogen Poots, and Maya Rudolph all make cameo appearances, but only Seal gets the honor of being attacked and devoured by a runaway wolf.
Clearly Judd Apatow likes taking digs at the music industry when he gets the chance. He's on board to produce this just as he was on John C. Reilly's Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. If this is half as funny as that then we're all in for a treat. Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping opens June 3rd.
