Russell Crowe To Direct And Star With Nicole Kidman In 'Inside The O'Briens'
Russell Crowe's Australian wartime drama The Water Diviner was an accomplished if sorely overlooked directorial debut, at least here in America. Perhaps that will change with his next effort behind the camera, Inside the O'Briens, since he'll be paired up alongside fellow Aussie and good friend, Nicole Kidman.
Crowe will star in and direct the film which deals with the impact of Huntington's disease. It's based on the novel by Lisa Genova, whose book Still Alice was adapted into a film that earned Julianne Moore an Oscar for Best Actress. This story centers on Boston police officer Joe O'Brien (Crowe), known for his physical stamina and methodical mind, until he begins experiencing mood swings, strange involuntary movements, and muddled thinking. As the symptoms worsen he's hit with the life-changing diagnosis he has Huntington's disease.
The project is being shopped around at Cannes, which is where Crowe has been for the recent world premiere of The Nice Guys.
