'Blade Runner 2' Adds 'Breathe In' And 'The Martian' Star Mackenzie Davis
Mackenzie Davis may be one of the central characters on AMC's critically-acclaimed but low-rated Halt and Catch Fire, but she's been a favorite of many (including myself) for a few years now. It all began with her eye-catching breakout role in Drake Doremus' Breathe In (a movie that was unjustly ignored), and she's been a steady presence ever since in films as varied as What If, That Awkward Moment, and low-fi thriller Bad Turn Worse. Last year she had a small role in Ridley Scott's The Martian, and maybe it was that association which has landed her a role in Scott's upcoming Blade Runner sequel.
Davis has joined the cast of Blade Runner 2, which Scott will produce for Denis Villeneuve to direct. Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks and Carla Juri star in the follow-up to the 1982 sci-fi classic, which takes place in a dystopian Los Angeles populated by humans and synthetic beings known as replicants. Original screenwriter Hampton Fancher is back penning the script alongside Michael Green, with the great Roger Deakins shooting the whole thing.
So one more reason to get excited. Blade Runner 2 opens next year on October 6th.
