'Blade Runner' Sequel Adds 'Captain Phillips' Star Barkhad Abdi
Those who thought Oscar-nominated Captain Phillips actor Barkhad Abdi would be a one-trick pony (like I did) were wrong as one can be. He's done more than just play a Somalian pirate, such as appearing opposite Helen Mirren and Alan Rickman in drone warfare drama Eye in the Sky and he had a role in Sascha Baron Cohen's The Brothers Grimsby. Now he's moving up to blockbuster sequels by joining the cast of Blade Runner 2,
Abdi will take on an unspecified role in the follow-up to Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi classic, which will be directed by Denis Villeneuve. Harrison Ford is back reprising his role as Deckard, while the new additions to the cast are Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri and Mackenzie Davis. What will everybody be doing? Who knows? All we do know is that Hampton Fancher and Michael Green wrote the screenplay which takes place years after the prior film's events.
Blade Runner 2 opens October 6th 2017.
