Danny Trejo is reteaming with Craig Moss, the director behind his Bad Ass trilogy of action flicks, for Social Security, which sounds like it should be a sequel. The action-comedy would have Trejo playing himself as he tries to protect a retirement home from menacing jewel thieves. Something tells me these guys will regret their decision to rob this particular retirement community. Trejo and Moss have started an Indiegogo campaign to fund the project after 20th Century Fox dropped it. [Deadline]
Oscar winner William Hurt has joined Helen Hunt in the true-life inspirational sports drama Live Like Line, about the improbable championship run by Iowa City’s West High School girls volleyball team. Directed by Sean McNamara (Soul Surfer) and starring Helen Hunt, Erin Moriarty (The Kings of Summer), and Danika Yarosh (Heroes Reborn), the film follows Kelly, who must overcome the loss of her best friend and the team's star player, Caroline "Line" Found, who died after losing control of her moped. Hurt plays Caroline's father who is reeling after the deaths of his daughter and wife within days of one another, but through faith and community support finds the strength to aid Kelly and the rest of her teammates. The story was chronicled on an episode of HBO's Real Sports. The film reunites with Hurt with McNamara after they worked together on period drama, The King's Daughter. [Deadline]
Oft-troubled rapper DMX has lined up his next acting role, joining the intriguing indie drama, Pimp, from writer/director Christine Crokos. The film stars Keke Palmer (Scream Queens) as a pimp who dreams of a better life with her girlfriend, played by Haley Ramm (X-Men: The Last Stand), one that takes them far away from the dangers of the sex trade. Also in the cast are Aunjanue Ellis (The Birth of a Nation), Vanessa Morgan, and Edi Gathegi. This will be DMX's first screen role since his hilarious cameo in Chris Rock's Top Five.
