Spy movies are having a moment right now, just look at the half dozen or so that hit in 2015 with most (sorry The Man from UNCLE) doing pretty well at the box office. But does that mean fans would want to see FX's animated and downright hilarious animated spoof Archer turned into a live-action movie? That's still up in the air, but if it were to happen then producers would want Jon Hamm as the titular agent, not series voice star H. Jon Benjamin. Blasphemy!! Producer Matt Thompson told The Daily Beast...
“It’s Jon Hamm. If Archer goes live-action, I do believe it will be Jon Hamm. Maybe you could do it with Jon Benjamin’s voice coming out of him? I don’t know. Adam is always like, ‘I don’t know if I want the movie to be live-action because I want it to be Jon Benjamin!’ But if it is live-action—and if it is not Jon Benjamin—it is our greatest hope that it would be Jon Hamm. I can say that with confidence.”
Who wouldn't want to see Don Draper as the vainglorious super spy? It sounds like a great idea, and Hamm has shown just how funny he can be on multiple occasions. Plus he totally looks the part. That said, if all of this were to happen I would have to demand Aisha Tyler play Lana Kane, just as she does on the series.
Don't count on this happening as long as Archer remains on the air, though. Season 7 just wrapped up and considering how it ended, who knows if there will be another? Cliffhanger!!
