David Lynch Gets 'Lucky', Steve Buscemi Joins 'Lean On Pete', James Badge Dale Is 'The Empty Man'

While he may be busy with his upcoming Twin Peaks revival, David Lynch has cleared some room on his schedule for an acting role. He'll join the ensemble cast of Lucky, the directorial debut of character actor John Carroll Lynch (Zodiac, a million other things). Starring Harry Dean Stanton (who starred in David Lynch's The Straight Story), and featuring Ed Begley Jr., Ron Livingston, Tom Skerritt, Barry Shabaka Henley, Beth Grant, Yvonne Huff Lee, Hugo Armstrong, and James Darren, the story centers on a 90-year-old atheist and the quirky characters he encounters while on a journey of self-discovery. Andrew Haigh is putting together his follow-up to the acclaimed drama 45 Years, and he's just found the film's first cast member.  Steve Buscemi will star in Lean on Pete, based on the Willy Vlautin novel about a 15-year-old boy who journeys to find his long-lost aunt, accompanied by the aging racehorse he stole. Buscemi will play Del, the original owner of the horse.  Haigh will be keeping busy in the coming months. Not only does he have a movie wrapping up his HBO series, Looking, but he'll also direct a biopic on late fashion designer, Alexander McQueen. [Deadline]

It's not often enough we get to see James Badge Dale (World War Z, Iron Man 3) in a leading role, so best to enjoy it while we can. Dale will star in comic book adaptation, The Empty Man, based on the BOOM! Studios series by Cullen Bunn and artist Vanesa R. Del Rey. Written and directed by David Prior, the supernatural thriller centers on "an ex-cop, plagued by the violent death of his wife and son, who battles to find a missing girl but soon discovers a sinister presence around him." This is a pretty big departure from the comic as confirmed by THR, so who knows how much will be familiar to readers?
