Kiefer Sutherland Goes Back Under For The 'Flatliners' Remake

The 1990 thriller Flatliners was memorable basically for the post-Brat Pack talent it was able to attract. Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, Oliver Platt, William Baldwin, and most notably Kiefer Sutherland, whose glowering face adorned every single promo. While the upcoming remake has a pretty strong cast it was missing something without Sutherland around darkening the mood, but now that's changed because he's coming back.

According to Deadline, Sutherland will play a "seasoned doctor" in the thriller which stars Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Kiersey Clemons, James Norton, and Nina Dobrev. It's unclear if his role will have ties to the original film, in which he played one of a group of risk-taking med school students involved in an experiment to explore the afterlife by stopping their own hearts.

It was a ridiculous premise then and it's ridiculous now, but as long as they embrace that aspect and not be too serious this could be a decent remake. Filming begins later this month with Niels Arden Oplev at the helm.
