Love Overcomes Hate In First Trailer For Jeff Nichols' 'Loving' Starring Joel Edgerton And Ruth Negga
Could there be a better time for Jeff Nichols' interracial marriage drama, Loving, to arrive? With racial divisiveness seemingly at an all-time high, Nichols presents a true tale of one interracial couple's love that overcomes all of the hate heaped upon them by a society endeavoring to keep them apart. The film debuted at Cannes to glowing reviews and is poised to be a major contender during the Oscar season.
The first trailer for the film has arrived and it shows Nichols in a vastly different mode than we saw from earlier this year with Midnight Special. Much of the acclaim has been heaped upon stars Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga who play Richard and Mildred Loving who spent years battling the state of Virginia for the right to live as a married couple. Their landmark case went all the way to the Supreme Court in 1967 and affirmed the right for different races to marry.
While all of his movies have been very different, Nichols has always shown a sensitive, emotional hand as a director and this looks like his most powerful dramatic work yet. Also starring Michael Shannon, Marton Csokas, and Nick Kroll, Loving opens November 4th in limited release.
