Anthony Mackie Rejoins Kathryn Bigelow For Detroit Riots Drama

Anthony Mackie was always a good actor but I don't think people truly took him seriously until he co-starred with Jeremy Renner in Kathryn Bigelow's Best Picture winner, The Hurt Locker. That set his career on a completely different trajectory, and of course we've seen him in a number of serious dramatic roles and as Falcon in the Marvel universe. Now as Bigelow puts together the ensemble for her Detroit riots film, Mackie has signed on to be a part of it.

Deadline reports Mackie has a role in the still-untitled drama centering on the racially charged riots that shook Detroit over five hot summer days in 1967. He joins John Boyega, Will Poulter, Ben O'Toole, Jack Reynor, and Hannah Murray in the film, playing a returning Vietnam veteran.

Filming begins soon in time for a release in 2017, the 50th anniversary of the riots.
