Donald Glover Could Play Lando Calrissian In The Han Solo Spinoff

Only weeks ago it was confirmed that Alden Ehrenreich had been cast as the lead in a young Han Solo spinoff movie, beating out literally thousands of actors who were up for the role. What we know about the film is still pretty slim, but we do know to expect Solo's furry pal Chewbacca, because obviously. And now we can expect another key figure from Solo's roguish past to play a key part: Lando Calrissian.

The Wrap broke the news that casting has begun to find someone to play a younger version of the Millennium Falcon's original owner. Of course it was Billy Dee Williams who brought his particular brand of Colt 45 cool to the role in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, returning to voice him in Star Wars Rebels, as well.

As for who could possibly hope to fill Williams' shoes? BMD says Community and Spider-Man: Homecoming star Donald Glover is the top choice by directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. That said, there may not be an offer out yet and it's not even clear if Glover is interested, but why in the world wouldn't he be? As much as I'm not really a fan, Glover would be a solid pick. As seen in Magic Mike XXL he can be funny, slick, and a ladies' man when called upon to do so. I'd much rather see someone like Andre Holland or Michael B. Jordan, but if it isn't them then Glover isn't terrible.

We'll see how this shakes out, but if Lord and Miller want him and Glover is interested, expect it to happen. Remember, Ehrenreich was the first person the duo tested to play Solo, and despite interviewing many more actors they went with him.
