Gripping, Gorgeous Trailer For Barry Jenkins' 'Moonlight' With Naomie Harris And Mahershala Ali
There's a reason why Brad Pitt and powerhouse distributor A24 were so quick get behind Barry Jenkins upcoming drama, Moonlight. Nearly a decade ago he made a breakthrough with Medicine for Melancholy, a film that had a huge impact on the way African-American relationships are depicted on the screen. And now Jenkins will bring his follow-up to TIFF, and judging by this gorgeous new trailer he's got another powerhouse picture on his hands.
Designed as a triptych similar to Derek Cianfrance's The Place Beyond the Pines, the film explores three chapters in the life of Chiron, a Miami kid grappling with his sexuality at the height of the drug craze. Naomie Harris, André Holland, Mahershala Ali, Janelle Monáe, Alex R. Hibbert, Jaden Piner, Ashton Sanders, Trevante Rhodes, and Jharrel Jerome make up an impressive ensemble.
Moonlight opens in NY and LA on October 21st, after screening at TIFF next month. Don't be surprised if this makes some real noise during the awards season.
