Antoine Fuqua Rejoins Denzel Washington For 'The Equalizer' Sequel

Denzel Washington doesn't do franchises. He's never had a sequel in his career, but if he's going to do one it might as well be with the director who knows him best. Sony got moving on a sequel to The Equalizer before the big screen remake ever opened, and when the movie proved to be a hit they confirmed it. Now we know it will be Antoine Fuqua stepping behind the camera once more to direct it.

Fuqua and Washington worked together on The Equalizer, but also Training Day and The Magnificent Seven which is in theaters right now. So they are very familiar with one another's style and complement one another pretty well. While it remains to be seen how 'Seven' does in theaters all of their collaborations have been successful.

The news was revealed during Collider's conversation with producer Todd Black, who says filming won't begin until next fall depending on Denzel's schedule...

"The script is done. We start shooting right after Labor Day, maybe right before Labor Day depending on Denzel’s schedule. So Equalizer 2 will start shooting in September of next year, maybe earlier depending on another movie that we’re shooting with Denzel before that. We’re going to do a little bit more work and we’re going to go into casting right after that for his nemesis."

Hopefully the sequel will step up the villain game because the last one couldn't measure up to Denzel in the least. It's unclear if others in the cast will return, but we can probably count out Chloe Moretz.
