Garrett Hedlund, Forest Whitaker Join KKK Drama 'Burden'
As issues of racism have reached a fever pitch lately, it seems Hollywood is trying to take advantage with movies based on the issue. The latest is the KKK drama, Burden, which has found its headliner just as production is set to begin.
According to Deadline, Garrett Hedlund will star in Burden, joined by Forest Whitaker, Usher Raymond, and Oscar winners Tom Wilkinson and Tess Harper. Writer/director Andrew Heckler based the story on true events involving Mike Burden, an orphan raised inside the Ku Klux Klan who attempts to escape when his girlfriend wants to start a new life. The Klan isn't having it, though, and target them for vengeance, only they are saved by a black congregation that accepts them into their community.
To be fair, the project has been around for about a decade without getting off the ground. However that it's moving forward now probably has at least something to do with the current climate.
