'Captain Marvel' Expected To Be An Origin Story

One of the cool things about Marvel is that they haven't shied away from a good old fashioned origin story. Iron Man, Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man...we had a chance to see how these heroes came to be right from the start, at a time when "origin" has become a dirty word. That's what happens when you've seen how Batman and Spider-Man got their start for the umpteenth time. And so it doesn't come as too much of a surprise to learn that Captain Marvel, which stars Oscar-winner Brie Larson, will be taking us back to the hero's beginninigs.

Cinemablend was in attendance at the Doctor Strange IMAX preview held last night (so were we) and it was followed by statements by director Scott Derrickson and Marvel honcho, Kevin Feige. A question about the MCU and origin stories led to this comment from Feige about the plans for Captain Marvel, which we hadn't known before...

“I think Benedict [Cumberbatch] is one of those ways. Benedict is an amazing actor and totally different than Hemsworth and totally different from Downey. And, we want to stay true to who he was in the books. The metamorphosis of what he goes through is more drastic than Tony [Stark] and that was fun to chart. I guess ‘Panther’ isn’t really an origin story since we saw him already in ‘Civil War,’ but his stand alone certainly introduces you to 99% of his world which you never saw before. And ‘Captain Marvel’ is certainly an origin story from the start.”

Okay, so if Captain Marvel is "an origin story from the start", does that mean she doesn't appear in Avengers: Infinity War? Or will we get her origin afterwards since the solo movie arrives a year later on March 8th 2019? Considering few know who the heck Carol Danvers is it would certainly make sense to give her origin ample time on screen.
