Zoe Kravitz And Tessa Thompson Testing For Han Solo Spinoff's Female Lead
As diversity and inclusion became major selling points for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the question became just how far Disney/Lucasfilm were willing to go with it. Fortunately, the promise continues to be fulfilled in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and apparently that will last through the upcoming Han Solo spinoff. With Alden Ehrenreich already set to play everyone's favorite Millennium Falcon pilot, a trio of talented non-Caucasian actresses are now up for the female lead.
Zoe Kravitz, Tessa Thompson, and Naomi Scott have all tested for the female lead this week while in London. While we don't know anything about the role they are vying for, let's just hope she doesn't have a familial tie to Lando Calrissian, who may be portrayed by Donald Glover if recent rumors pan out.
Any of the three women would be a great addition capable of stealing the entire film on their own. Kravitz has been a frequent presence on the indie and blockbuster scene, most recently in Dope and Mad Max: Fury Road. She'll be seen next in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Thompson had her breakthough performance in Dear White People and recently signed on to play Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, meaning she already has a Disney connection. Scott may be the least known of the trio but her resume is strong with performances in The 33, The Martian, and next year's Power Rangers reboot.
Filming doesn't begin until next year so directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have time to make the best possible choice. The film is expected to hit theaters on May 25th 2018. [Variety]
