Paul Feig To Direct Mindy Kaling's Late Night Talk Show Comedy

It's been a busy few months for Mindy Kaling as the funny lady has begun shooting on Ocean's Eight and signed for a role in Disney's A Wrinkle in Time. But a couple of months ago she also set into motion a new comedy based on her own screenplay about a late night talk show. While she's already landed Emma Thompson for one of the starring roles, she now may have a director with a knack for hit comedies featuring hilarious female talent.

Ghostbusters director Paul Feig is in talks to direct Kaling's untitled film, which she will also star in. Feig is probably looking for something smaller after the attention, most of it negative, that his Ghostbusters reboot attracted, and this sounds like the perfect bounce-back vehicle. The film finds Thompson as a veteran late night talk show host who risks her career by hiring by hiring the show's first female writer, played by Kaling.

No word on when filming will begin but it will probably have to wait for Kaling's schedule to clear up. [Variety]
