Brad Pitt To Produce And Star In Depression Drama 'He Wanted The Moon'

Given all of the turmoil Brad Pitt is going through in his personal life right now, it's probably a good thing that he has a passion project to focus on. A year ago he picked up the rights to Mimi Baird's deeply-personal book, He Wanted the Moon, and soon hired Pulitzer Prize and Emmy-winning writer Tony Kushner (Angels in America) to adapt the screenplay. While Pitt doesn't always star in the projects his Plan B banner snaps up, this is one he plans to get in front of the camera for.

Deadline reports Pitt will star in He Wanted the Moon, about Mimi Baird's father, Perry Baird, a Harvard educated man who spent his life studying the root cause of manic depression, only to fall victim to it himself. Mimi then set on a journey to learn about the father she barely knew, and to complete the research that had been lost.

Sounds like potentially devastating stuff. Without a director attached we can assume this is still a ways off but worth keeping an eye on.
