Gru Faces '80s Villainy In First Trailer For 'Despicable Me 3'
I'll be honest, I forgot Despicable Me 3 was even a thing. That's because so much of Illumination's focus has been on the uber-popular Minions, and for good reason, that the shenanigans of their master Gru (Steve Carell) have taken the background. But Gru is indeed back and based on this new trailer he'll be facing a foe who is totally retro.
South Park's Trey Parker voices the film's '80s-inspired villain, Balthazar Bratt, complete with loud purple jumpsuit, shoulder pads, and Michael Jackson's "Bad" for theme music. He's a former child star driven evil by the cancellation of his series. They couldn't get Todd Bridges to voice this guy?
Of course the Minions are back being wacky and adorable, along with Kristen Wiig as the voice of Gru's wife Lucy Wilde. I fully expect this will make a ton of money just like the others. Combined the two Despicable Me movies and Minions have earned over $2.5B worldwide.
Despicable Me 3 opens June 30th 2017.
