Lin-Manuel Miranda Has Animated Musical 'Vivo' Coming In 2020
Ignoring everything we know about Lin-Manuel Miranda and his stage work as the creator of Hamilton, he's making some serious power moves on the big screen, too. His original score for Disney's Moana is earning raves everywhere (check some of it out here), and he recently signed on for a role in Mary Poppins Returns. Now Miranda's teaming up with Sony Pictures Animation on Vivo, a project that has been kicking around for a while but has renewed significance with him on board.
Miranda will provide 11 original songs for Vivo, which will be penned by his In the Heights collaborator Quiara AlegrÃa Hudes. Kirk DeMicco (The Croods) will direct. But this isn't the first time Miranda has been involved with Vivo. He actually set the project up years ago at Dreamworks but things fell through, and with Miranda at the height of popularity Sony Pictures has snapped it up and made it a priority. The story follows an adventure-seeking music-loving capuchin monkey on a dangerous journey from Havana to Miami to fulfill his destiny.
Sony wants to have Vivo ready for a December 18th 2020 release. [Deadline]
