The 'Godzilla' And 'Pacific Rim' Sequels Now Have Titles
Sometimes it's a good idea to scan those boring old press releases studios flood our inboxes with. Legendary dropped one of those things about the hiring of some execs nobody should ever know about unless something MAJOR screws up, and in the release we also got the official titles for Pacific Rim 2 and Godzilla 2.
The Pacific Rim sequel will now be known as Pacific Rim: Uprising, which isn't that much better than the working title of Pacific Rim: Maelstrom. Both are pretty flat. Steven S. DeKnight is at the helm of the kaiju vs. robots flick that is currently shooting. Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, and Adrian Arjona lead the film which opens February 23rd 2018.
As for Godzilla 2, which has Krampus director Michael Dougherty at the helm, it will be titled Godzilla: King of Monsters. Gareth Edwards is no longer involved behind the camera, but it looks like Dougherty and co-writer Zach Shields will be leading a writers' room to help flesh out the franchise. Remember, this is just the next step before the Godzilla vs. Kong crossover movie in 2020. It remains to be seen if they'll stick to promises made at Comic-Con of appearances by classic Toho monsters Mothra and King Ghidora. So much has changed since then that I doubt it. Godzilla: King of Monsters opens March 22nd 2019.
How long until the Pacific Rim vs. Godzilla vs. Kong showdown?
