Sebastian Stan & Allison Janney Join Margot Robbie In Tonya Harding Film, 'I, Tonya'
So here's the semi-cool thing about Captain America: The Winter Soldier's Sebastian Stan signing on to Tonya Harding biopic, I, Tonya. He recently co-starred in The Bronze, which is a pretty mediocre movie but centers on an Olympic gymnast clearly inspired by the controversial, notoriously abrasive Harding. He may feel right at home in the film then as he joins Margot Robbie and fellow new addition, Allison Janney.
With Robbie in the role of Harding, the champion figure skater infamous for setting up a plot to bash rival Nancy Kerrigan's knee prior to the 1994 Olympics, Stan gets to play her ex, Jeff Gillooly, who hired a thug to do the actual bashing. Janney, who stars in CBS' Mom, will now play Harding's mom, LaVona, who had no role in the attack as far as we know. How about showing your daughter some maternal support, mom? Sheesh. This is why Tonya acts out. It probably didn't help that LaVona was one of those mean celebrity moms who pushed her daughter too hard at practice.
Craig Gillespie (Million Dollar Arm) is behind the camera and I expect it will get rolling soon. [Variety]
